Bobby V Running Thread

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Boom_70, Apr 17, 2012.

  1. Michael - John Henry, Warner and Lucchino are noted Democrats. That's why they went the extra mile for Kerry when he was running against Bush but were oblivious to his standing with the fans. That's why Kerry was booed very loudly when he tried to throw out a first pitch in 2004.

They were equally oblivious to the fans feelings about Obama today and made him part of the spectacle (though a very small part of the spectacle which is a point I'll get to in a minute). You should know that in Mass you cannot get that many Republicans in one spot. Those people booing Obama were not all Republicans. The Emperor has no clothes but you and other people who should know better continue to close your eyes and ears to the facts.

Consider the very minor role Obama's congratulatory message was given. They played it at the end when everyone was making their way to the beer lines and the bathrooms. Obama got lesser billing in the most Democratic state in the union than Kevin Millar. The President is being relegated to "not this guy again" status.

Stanley is a coach in Las Vegas.
Stunned Doerr was able to make it back. Sad to see how much Pesky has aged in the last 18 months (though he sounded good on Opening Day), but to think it wasn't long ago he was routinely hitting fungos.

As for the President, there was much more of the Sudbury, Wellesley, Dover types at the park today than the Dorchester, Springfield, Eastie type of crowd (even moreso than any other day). And if you are there and disagree with him, are you more likely to listen to the message or boo? If you agree with him, are you more likely to listen to the message or scream and yell with delight and not pay attention to what he is saying?

It all went so well until ownership had to make a buck on the whole thing. Millar sounded smashed, Pedro thought we were all there to see him. After 40 minutes after watching a wave of former players, the final image is a wretched toast.

I agree. Doerr has been slowed for a while but it's tough to see Pesky's mortality creeping in.

The scene of The Teammates being wheeled to second by Varitek and Wakefield was a wonderfully poignant one. Do agree that the Sox hit on 21 (not OUR 21) by having Millar and Pedro lead a toast. "Who is Karim Garcia?" while fucking funny, was completely out of place (not OUR outofplace).

The only thing missing from the final scene was Pedro pointing at his head or giving Zimmer a hip toss. (Unfortunately Zimmer couldn't make it, would have gotten a good ovation.)

I wonder if any effort was made to remember the ballclub's notorious racist legacy in that facility.

Pedro was far more lucid - maybe because idiot Millar wasn't there - when he was in the booth with Don and Jerry.
