Good topic. Any John Hughes movie did right by Northbrook, Ill., and Glenbrook North High School. Suburban angst and all. My bro-in-law went to Glenbrook North and took me by the houses that were used for exteriors in: Ferris Bueller, Risky Business (though not a Hughes flick), Uncle Buck, Sixteen Candles, and so forth.

    "Purple Rain" and Minneapolis
"Pump Up the Volume" and Phoenix (again with soulless suburban angst)
Dirty Harry movies and San Francisco
"Singles" and "Reality Bites" and Seattle

Boogie Nights is as much a snapshot of the San Fernando Valley in the late '70s as it is the porn industry at that time.

Chicago: shot in Toronto, not in Chicago

Hairspray: no Baltimore there, all Toronto

Good Will Hunting; shot at University of Toronto, Central Tech

Cinderella Man: MSG? nope Maple Leaf Gardens

Toronto stands in for lots of US cities, notably NY and Chicago

Lots more where those came from.

No, the best Woody Allen Manhattan movie is Manhattan.

Also, Marley and Me for Miami/Ft. Lauderdale.

Didn't the south side of the Bay store on Yonge stand in for the exterior of MSG in Cinderella Man?
