Game tied 2-2, Milan scores what appeared to be a third for a foul, and everyone gets their handbags out and starts swinging.

Wow, and now Milan goes ahead on Pato's second. Absolutely unbelievable how poorly Madrid defended that, no-one paying any attention to him at the far post.

The keeping in this game is abominable; never mind the general sloppiness.

Meanwhile, the world is Real's oyster.

All the galacticos in the world won't do you any good if you can't defend, both individually and as a team.

The last time Real Madrid was a player in Europe, its defense had guys like Fernando Hierro, Ivan Helguera and Michel Salgado playing well (not to mention Claude Makalele spoiling in midfield). Funny how a bit of investment in defense goes a long way.

    A-freakin-MEN, Troop.

Amazing how that works, isn't it? You can go a long way with that wondrous element called a counterattack. And to employ that wondrous thing called a counterattack, you've got to have defenders who can stand their ground, blow up attacks and turn the play around.

And yeah, that top-level stopper/midfielder clogging the middle is rather necessary too.

You are the Houston Dynamo. You have just received the help you need to have a chance to advance to the knockout stages of the CONCACAF Champions League with Pachuca beating your rival for the second place in the group 2-0.

You are playing a team that is 0-5 in group play with a -17 goal differential, knowing you need to win by three goals to advance on goal difference.

So how do you start? By going down 2-0 in the first 10 minutes.

    Nice one.

The first tiebreaker is head-to-head, which Houston holds over Arabe Unido (4 points to 1).
That being said, they need two goals in 20 minutes to beat a team that hadn't even SCORED in this competition before tonight.

And, of course, the Dynamo manage to lose.

So, Columbus alone, it appears into the quarterfinals.

Is there a reason why the CCL isn't really as widely followed, or seen as holding prestige yet? Is it because of the newness of people's awareness of it?

    1) Mexican teams pwn MLS.
    2) Clubs don't have the squad depth to compete on two fronts (let alone MLS, US Open Cup and CCC), so they prioritize winning MLS.
    3) The Superliga, for some strange reason, lives on.
    4) Mexican teams pwn MLS.

If Liverpool loses on Sunday, is Rafa in any danger of getting fired?

Maybe, but I don't think Hicks and Gillett would do anything too hasty. If the situation persists to where Liverpool are out of the Champions League, and in danger of not qualifying next season, by the time pool play ends on December 9, that might be a tipping point.

Then you bring in someone new, let him do a bit in the January transfer window, and try to make a run for the Top 4 and in the FA Cup.
