When did the Cleveland Cavs get a sword in their logo?

I never noticed it before this week.

The graphic for the Cavs used by TNT reminds me of the Tampa Bay Bucs logo.

 

When they redesigned the logo back in 2003.

I'm getting queasy just looking at those atrocious things. Looks like Ronald McDonald was playing small forward.

 

TNT always uses teams' secondary logos (for whatever reason). You'll notice that the logo they used for the Magic last night was just the sparkly basketball and not the wordmark.

They also use the cloverleaf for the Celtics, the bird's head for the Hawks, an L for the Lakers, a spur for the Spurs (sans wordmark), etc.

 

Yep. Creamer is one of the best when it comes to this stuff.

 

When did Larry Nance stop playing for them? Seems like yesterday he was playing for them...

 

Yeah, those secondary logos are deigned to reproduce better in print or on TV...simpler.

 

Boy, I'd love to know what was in the water in some of these NBA towns in the mid-1990s.
