  1. And unfortunately the retirement doesn't involve the right person.

They lost 2 from their sports staff and aren't replacing either one? How big is their sports department?

Counting their endless amount of stringers?

    Just kidding, my Advocate friends.

Do they rely heavily on stringers?

  7. Full-time staff:

    Butch Muir, sports editor.
Joe Schiefelbein, assistant sports editor, LSU columnist.
Sheldon Mickles, New Orleans Saints, LSU track.
Randy Rosetta, LSU football and baseball.
    Scott Hotard, LSU women's sports.
    Gary Laney, LSU men's basketball.
    Perryn Keys, Southern University.
    Robin Fambrough, preps.
    Matt Samuels, desk.
    Jason Russell, desk.
    Rob DeArmond, desk.
    Dominic Baudoin, desk.
    Alex Songe, desk.
    Joe Macaluso, outdoors.

    The two departures mentioned above:

Matt Randolph, former ASE, left for another career.
Bonner Ridgeway, copy desk chief, retiring April 10.

The others are listed above by primary beat. They have other responsibilities, and the writers recently got an e-mail stating they will soon be asked to help with some desk work/layouts. The beat writers also write columns on their beats.

Despite going to a smaller web a few years ago and having some space cut out since then, the sports section is still one of the largest in the country in terms of news hole relative to its circulation.

They have a fairly extensive stringer network too. Lots of emphasis on preps, stringer help with Saints and Hornets, stuff like that.

A good trip, a bad trip or an acid trip?

Depends, Slap. Mostly good. But the acid might come in handy these days.

Not to piss on a good thread but why is Baton Rouge being talked about. There isn't a job available.
