My poll, with movement from last week. Just can't justify flipping Texas and Oklahoma. If these polls are an exercise in would-Team-A-beat-Team-B-if-they-played, then I don't see how anyone can possibly explain listing the Sooners as No. 1. Their resumes are very, very similar and that exercise DID happen -- and Texas won, on a neutral field. Since it comes down to those two, because Florida's loss was much worse, the 'Horns win for me:

    1. Texas +1
    2. Oklahoma +1
    3. Florida +1
    4. Alabama -3
    5. USC -
    6. Penn State -
    7. Texas Tech -
    8. Utah -
    9. Ohio State -
    10. Oklahoma State -
    11. Boise State -
    12. TCU -
    13. Cincinnati +1
    14. Oregon +2
    15. Michigan State +2
    16. Georgia Tech +2
    17. BYU +2
    18. Northwestern +2
    19. Oregon State +2
    20. Georgia +2
    21. Ball State -8
    22. Pittsburgh +2
    23. Mississippi +2
    24. Virginia Tech NR
    25. Missouri -10

    Fell out: Boston College (23).

    I voted:
    Florida
    Texas
    Oklahoma

I think Oklahoma is the best team in the nation, but I can't put them ahead of Texas. I just can't. It ain't fair to the 'Horns.
Florida is good, but I think they will get hammered - Nebraska style - against Oklahoma.

    PS Georgia sucks.

What's the over/under on #1 votes for Texas?

I have one and I quickly see Buck agrees.

I would say seven in the over/under.

    2. Oklahoma
    3. Texas
    4. Alabama
    5. Penn State

Had to go with Oklahoma ahead of Texas, since well, we all know why. Florida is playing like the No. 1 team.

Done. The Crimson Tide are who I thought they were. Saw no reason to bump them down any further due to a loss that proved to me that I was right to have them that low in the first place.

Just curious, why do you like a three-loss Oklahoma State more than a one-loss Alabama that led in the fourth quarter against your top-ranked Gators? Do you think the Pokes would have played a tougher game?

Winds of BCS don't blow hard, just blow period

    Dec. 9, 2008

    By SLAPPY 4428
    Venomous Polster

If a tie is like kissing your sister, a five-way tie is like frenching your grandmother – Western Michigan University basketball coach Les Wothke.

How appropriate is this? A tie at the top of the sportsjournalists.com college football poll heading into the bowel season is just fitting for this season. No one wants to take a stand on the field so we’ll compromise off it.

The last poll has the two media darlings of Tim Tebow and Florida and Sam Bradford and Oklahoma squarely on top with everyone else on the outside looking in – just like those corporate greedheads of the BCS.

Jumping Jeebus on a stick! These are the two best teams? These are the teams we have to wade through thirtymajillion other games to watch? Ms. Slappy got up during the SEC championship game and took a washcloth and started wiping a corner of the TV screen.

Someone asked her what she was doing and she said “getting ready to clean up in case these two boobs on TV spilled them some Tebow.”

Whatever boobs are with Tebow – Danielson and Lundquist – or Ms. Funbags, we’re in for a long month of dealing with America’s Most Perfect Person.

If a tie is like kissing your sister, losing is like kissing you grandmother with her teeth out. – George Brett

And Teblow and the crocs get to face a team that was the best in its championship game, but not the best in its division – only by the grace of a deep-level tie-breaker did the Boomers get to beat up on Mizzou. “Beat up” is the optimum phrase here thanks to Bob Stoops making sure that the Sooners not only ran up the score but every viewer in America was subjected to a audio version of waterboarding by the Okie Marching Band.

I’m not saying that Stoops did this intentionally, but… ah hell. Yes I am and it’s bull. Let’s be sure people know we are the best by picking on a defense that couldn’t stop an old woman from crossing the street.

Texas and Texas Tech have legitimate gripes about not being in the BCS title game. But because Bobby stooped to a new low, the Okies are headed to Miami for the good bowl.

Always remember Goliath was a 40 point favorite over David. – Shug Jordan

So remember boys and girls, when you complain over the next month that one team didn’t deserve its spot or another should have been ranked higher – it’s your fault. It’s your fault for not putting this team higher or that team lower; it’s your fault that you help perpetuate the myth of big schools being more deserving or another being flashier than the rest; it’s your fault because you watch the damn games on TV and drive the ratings so these programming morons feel compelled to give you matchups between ”two of the hottest teams in America” in Rutgers and N.C. State; it’s your fault because you stand by and let the BCS grow bigger, stronger and less accountable for excluding a Boise State team that’s 35-3 in the last three seasons from the big table, but including a Virginia Tech team that until two weeks ago got as many AP poll votes as Michigan.

Demand change. Don’t settle. Is a playoff the answer? Maybe, maybe not. But allowing stupidity for the sake of greed isn’t. Demand that the BCS be flexible.

The Big East Conference is no more deserving of an automatic bid than the Potsdam Conference. And the Potsdam Conference played a tougher non-conference schedule.

So don’t let up. Complain, spout, spew, argue and don’t let up. Make sure that the best teams play at the end, not the ones who politic better than a Southern senator. Get off your behinds and do something – right.

Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules, and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence: in other words it is war minus the shooting.—George Orwell
