Going from newspapers to talk radio

    Yeah, you also need to have the right personality for it, especially in this day and age when what matters most of saying the most outrageous, obnoxious things possible and being able to win arguments by being louder than the other guy.

    If you can master the use of the phrase "It's a joke." or "what a joke" you can have a long, successful career in sports talk radio.

    Knowing the inner workings of the TV/radio business, jobs at those operations are notoriously unstable, from on-air talent to the schmoe who helps run the board on the overnight weekend shifts. From everyone I know in the business, the job stability is right along the lines of being a pro sports team coach: Do well (pull in good ratings) and you're fine, but any kind of drop and you can find yourself on your ass in a heartbeat.
    Sports talk radio is -- for the most part -- a vast bastion of truly meaningless drivel, misinformation, and bluster. But the past couple of posts are right: It's all about personality, a sharp, quick wit, and ability to think on your feet. What do you think? I'll hang up and listen for your answer.
