I liked Canter's Deli on fairfax and el cholo.

That explains why it didn't have a familiar feel when I went there for the second time a couple years ago.

The first time had been in May 1988.

Hey all, just got back from the trip. Lot of good suggestions for eats. We ended up at Gladstones in Malibu (or Santa Monica). It was awesome. It's right on the ocean. The food was great ... so was the service. And afterwards they pack up your leftovers by making these cool-looking animals out of aluminum foil. We got a seahorse, oyster, whale, crab, swan. We'd most definitely recommend it to anyone heading out there. Well worth it.
