Even though I loved that post, I also disagree with that hyperbole.

    Yes.

    Also known as competitive balance.

Is it worth having competitive balance if the product is terrible?

A little bit of socialism is extremely important in the sports setting.

The owners in the NFL in the 1960s sacrificed their individual, short-term profit (Wellington Mara in particular), knowing that EVERY team having a chance to win was the most important factor in the long-term success of the league.

That's really going out on a limb.

There are only two really good teams (Pats and Colts), a number of decent (Cowboys, Steelers, Giants, Packers) franchises and the rest are forgettable. There has only been two must-see games this season: Cowboys-Pats and Pats-Colts.

Compare that to the recent past where seemingly there were important games every week. Giants-Redskins. Bears-49ers. Oilers-Bills. Cowboys-whoever.

You are like the guys I know who swear that the NBA, compared to today's game, was incredible in the 1980s with the Lakers, Celtics and 76ers.

Simon, I'm not arguing about the players' athletic ability. I'm asking what good is a salary cap when the games by-and-large aren't as good as they used to be.

Truly, what is your evidence that what you say is true.

I DO think that the rules changes the past 10 years have had a deleterious effect on the game, but I think the games are better than they ever have been.

But THAT, certainly is up for debate, and I understand that.

    Totally subjective.
