I'm sure this comes as little surprise. He is nominally an NBA guy according to the front page intro, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him do more.

    Here's his first column.

Any chance that this trend of newspaper guys leaving for more money with Web sites will ever get through the thick skulls of our publishers and cause them to, you know, pay us competitively?
    No? Ok, moving on.

"I want to examine people, especially those who are changing things. Changing the way the game is played. Changing perceptions about themselves. Changing their community for the better. That's what I want to explore now that I'm here at the biggest sports site."

Is Adande a member of the SportsJournalists.com nation?

Adande took the buyout at the L.A. Times and left without another job.

You've got to put a little asterisk there. He didn't have a job exactly lined up, but he sure had enough irons in the fire not to worry about it.

Why does he still have the "Special to ESPN.com" credit line?

He's been a contributer at ESPN for a few years now. I'm sure they weren't paying him peanuts for Around The Horn and any other guest appearances or NBA work. He may not have left the Times for ESPN, but I'm sure he knew exactly where he was going to end up.

  8. Don't fool yourselves ... This was in the works for quite some time.

It was in the works, yes, but when he left the Times, he did not have a job.

    From his farewell column:

"Here’s one thing I can say with certainty: This is my last column for The Times. I have accepted a buyout offer and I’m exploring other options."

    Bristol Insider is correct.
The "Ts" may not have been crossed, but he knew where he was landing.

Old news, and I consider myself out of the loop.
