It's funny to see how Scott Hotard was basically forced out of Pensacola, but he wins first place in features in Naples. Just goes to show how dumb the higher ups in P-cola are.

OK. OK. I surrender. Wasn't thinking about it in that context as I've never been a judge for any of these contests.

How many beers do I now owe? :D

  3. eh, not a problem, andy.

What do you think of the second part I raised?

I'm kind of torn. I see your point as far as the comment made by your SE, but since these contests are specific to the profession and the entire process that goes into putting out a section is what's being judged, I also can understand why design is given so much weight.

I don't think Scott was forced out. He didn't like the place. And he wins awards because he's a darn good writer.

Roger Mooney is freakishly good at what he does. Your classic student of the discipline, always working to be better. Congrats to Roger. As for Matthew Postins, I'm guessing someone at one of the larger Florida (or Texas) papers need to take a look at him soon.

What she said. Plus, their news editor is a hell of a guy.

Did the Florida Times-Union decide to sit out the competition this year?
