Who got the Oden scoop?

I've been following the draft for a while now, and especially the angle of how its reported on by the mass media.

This stuff with the Oden scoop was pretty unique. Every media outlet has essentially the same exact info, all are claiming they got it on their own, and none are attributing it to anyone.

The first to get it up was FoxSports (around 7:30 PM), Jeff Goodman to be exact:

Very shortly after, the Columbus Dispatch (who have been ALL OVER this story for the last two weeks, quoting Conley Sr. and Cook's mom left and right) joined the party:

Then came the World Wide Leader, about two hours after Goodman, claiming their own exclusive:

So what do you guys think happened?

Who are the two sources that Goodman is reporting about?

Did the other media outlets see Fox's report and then confirm it themselves?

 

Probably a good guess. That, or the source was just slow working through the rolodex.

 

I'd be stunned if the source isn't Conley Sr., and I'll bet he just went through his phone list calling every outlet with the news.

 

Truth is, nobody outside the business cares who got the "scoop."

And a lot of us in the business don't care either.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking...but what's up with the "two sources" Goodman is claiming then?

 

True, but then Conley Sr. and the mom came out saying that Oden Sr. isn't really in the loop so much and that Greg hadn't decided at that point yet. Was pretty ugly, and in the end didn't really resolve anything. This one seems more definitive...although lets be honest, it was always going to be a total shock if he stayed at OSU.

 

Might have gotten a call, then checked it with another source to make sure it was legit. After seeing his story, all the other outlets needed to do was call their sources and get confirmation.
