1000 AM Watts is equivalent to 50,000 FM Watts.

I once covered a college basketball team that had a radio station that transmitted through electrical wiring that reached the on-campus dorms. The only people who could listen were student in their dorm rooms ... if they had a radio that plugged in.

Given how hard it is to land a (paying) first job in broadcasting, I'm happy that Chef posted it here.

If 50,000 watts reach 38 states and half of Canada, how much does 1,000 watts reach?

In the Plains states, where the soil conductivity is awesome, probably at least a 50-mile radius of decent coverage.

And 50,000 watts only covers 38 states at night.
