gannett plans to layoff 3,000 by december.

Agree with your comment. The "liferaft" (good choice of words cause that's exactly how I look at it, as I'm lucky and grateful to be where I'm at) doesn't have that many spots on it and I think that's because of the economy of course. Maybe, things will look better for those hoping to leave the...

gannett plans to layoff 3,000 by december.

Well, I'm currently a proposal writer for a collection agency. Let's say you're a university looking to collect on past due tuition bills or other odds and ends from a debtor. As the university you would send out a Request For Proposal (RFP) out to collection agencies to see who can provide the...

gannett plans to layoff 3,000 by december.

Escaped Gannett nearly a year ago (after only a few years in the biz) for a job in corporate communications, and I gotta say, I read Gannett Blog several times a day, just to see what's going on and I think about my former co-workers, who seem to be stuck in this mess. It's really sad. To those...

Beware, Trentonian offering jobs that don't exist

Man, I had no idea there could be so much disdain for one person. This is crazy.

    Professional wrestling thread

McMahon was on trial during the early 90's for alledged steroid distribution. Hogan actually testified for the prosecution, which led to some real bad blood between the two men for years. Since the government seems heck bent on cleaning up professional sports (yeah wrestling is entertainment...

Depressing Gannett P&L statement (uh, make that an L statement)

Yes Gannett is cheap or whatever. But people should look at it this way. Unlike other big newspaper chains, Gannett DOESN"T lay people off. I have yet to hear of a Gannett paper have mass layoffs like the INKY, Tribune Co. or other chains that have done it in the last two years. Yes they're...

Beware, Trentonian offering jobs that don't exist

Aaron had a weekly "Media Guy" column at the Courier. Don't know if he wanted to do more, but he had his weekly page. Just my two cents. Carry on.

Maybe the greatest job ever ...

In all seriousness, VKM is one of the biggest assholes in the world and a shirt boss to work for. Not speaking from experience, but I've read a lot about him and the company and how he handles not only the talent, but others who work for him and no one has good things to say about the man.

Didn't this place have a similar opening around this time last year? BTW, who left and where is he or she going?

    NBC Sunday Night Football

Oh ok, that makes since. That will save us from watching another Oakland-Denver game that will be meaningless down the line, as Oakland will most likely be 1-10 or something.

    NBC Sunday Night Football

Just checked out the NFL schedule on NBC Sports' website and saw that there were NO Sunday games scheduled for the second half of the season. WTF? Am I missing something here? What was the whole point in bringing in Madden and Michaels if you're own going to show games half of the season?

How much did you get for your last pay raise?

I'm up for my first raise with my current employer and I am curious to know what others have received for raises after their first full year in the business? Discuss
