    Toledo, Ohio
    Job Status: Full-time
    Salary: $40,000 to $45,000

We're looking for an experienced beat reporter who can do more than just game coverage. We need someone who can generate enterprise stories for Sundays, or the front page. If you can tell the stories of the people in sports, good and bad, this position is for you. You'll cover the University of Toledo, one of two MAC schools in our circulation area, and other sports assignments as needed. A four-year degree is required, as is at least 2 years of experience.

    Which paper is this?

My guess would be the Blade. Is Toledo a two-paper town?

It is, indeed, the Blade. Their UT beat writer just left to go cover a different, slightly more attractive UT down in Austin.

Is $40,000 to $45,000 high for a beat reporter job at a school the size of Toledo?

Blade announced Friday they are laying off 131 employees in production and closing that portion of their facility. Not knowing what else is down the road; I'd be asking a lot of questions about job security on this one.

Hey man, don't question a good salary. Be happy for it.

    Toledo is a Guild paper.

It's also a one newspaper town (to answer the question above).

As of 2008 The Blade had the 83rd largest daily newspaper circulation in the U.S. Also, it's still family owned by the Blocks. It also has a Pulitzer to its credit.

But as rtse already said, big questions remain with the closing of its print facility.

  9. Be happy for it, but not too happy....keeping in mind that the median income for employed Americans with a college degree is about $56,000 annually.

You just paste your resume into a box through jjobs? Never seen that.

    To clear up some questions:
    - The paper will be printed still...they are figuring out where right now. Job security is fine. Two completely different unions....with different union contracts. Negotiations are starting right now and it will probably be a 3-year deal once signed.
    - Toledo has 3 papers in town. The Blade is the only daily. There is also the Toledo Free Press (weekly) and The City Paper (alt news/entertainment). All have their niche audiences.
    - Yes, just paste resume and info into box. It worked for me 3-plus years ago! :D
