The Goshen News, an award-winning daily newspaper in northern Indiana, is seeking a motivated and innovative sports journalist to join its newsroom team. The desired candidate will have outstanding writing abilities, strong organizational skills and well-honed journalistic instincts. He or she will also have a firm grasp of evolving trends in multimedia and social networks and know how to craft a compelling story, both in print and online. Night and weekend hours will be required.

Special emphasis will be placed on feature writing, enterprise reporting and multimedia production. The Goshen News wants to report on local sports through multiple platforms in ways that dazzle our community. While many features and event coverage will focus on high school athletes, the position would also involve coverage of Goshen College and University of Notre Dame athletics. Photography, desk work and column writing will also be duties of this position.

The Goshen News (circulation 11,000) covers most of Elkhart County as well as parts of LaGrange, Noble and Kosciusko counties. Its talented staff has won more than 30 Hoosier State Press Association awards the past four years. Goshen (population 32,064) is the county seat and located 25 miles southeast of South Bend, Ind., 120 miles southeast of Chicago and 150 miles north of Indianapolis. It is home to a thriving downtown art and social scene, the second-largest county fair in the nation and the county’s only residential college.

Desired qualifications for this newsroom position include a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and at least two years of experience at a daily newspaper. However, recent college graduates with strong credentials will be considered. This position offers a competitive salary and insurance package.
