    Company: Tribal Tribune
    Position:
    Join the Tribe
    Location:
    Nespelem, Washington St.
    Job Status: Full-time
    Salary: $30,000 to $35,000
    Ad Expires:
    May 27, 2014
    Job ID: 1582466

    Description:

Tribal Tribune, a monthly tribal government publication, has three (3) immediate "journalist" openings, as seen at www.ColvilleTribes.com/jobs.php.

Since 1960, the Tribune has been the voice of the Colville Confederated Tribes, the state's second-largest tribe and one of the largest employers in North Central Washington. The newspaper allows for its 14 council members to communicate regularly with its 9,500 membership, its programs and directors to submit updates and its membership to celebrate life, mourn deaths and tell stories.

For the remainder of 2014, we will remain a monthly. Our goal is to transition to a weekly in January 2015.

Goodbye ramen!: The position pays $18.15 per hour, less 5 percent during probationary 90 days. Advancement opportunities available.

One less bill!: Each position will be loaned a new Samsung Galaxy S4 with Verizon service paid for by department.

No labtop? No problem!: Each position will be loaned a new Macbook for office and remote use. We share two Adobe Creative Cloud accounts, which allow up to four computers to run Adobe applications simultaneously.

Don't burn out!: The Colville Confederated Tribes allow for three traditional-purpose days off, a week of vacation, and observes 10 holidays annually. Go home and visit ma and pa or take a trip somewhere.

Feel valued!: Be paid for every hour you work, including overtime and compensatory opportunities, both given time and a half. Receive 56 cents per mile on all work-related trips, per diem on travel to events, conferences and training.

Requirements: 1) Fill out and turn in a job application. Government hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some weekend work required. Some employees travel from as far as 100 miles each day to Nespelem, the government headquarters. Live on or adjacent to the 1.4 million acre reservation, which has four districts: Inchelium, Nespelem, Omak and Keller. Additional requirements listed in job announcement.

What are we looking for?: The Tribune is looking for a jack of all trades; or, someone who believes they have the potential to develop into one for each position. All positions require reporting, photography, layout, copy editing, ad sales, graphic design, circulation work, social media activity and content management. The three positions will fill the roles of News Editor, Sports/Community Editor and Online Editor -- please note the capacity in which you would best fit in your email or cover letter, followed with a second option.

While our websites still need quite a bit of work, you can view our latest copy of the Tribal Tribune at ColvilleTribes.com or see some of our stories at TheTribalTribune.com. We hope to upgrade both websites in the coming year.

Applications must be filled out and can be found at http://www.colvilletribes.com/jobs.php. The position closes on May 16th. It currently says two positions are available, but a third will be added soon.

Contact between newspaper staff and potential applicants regarding the position is not allowed according to Colville Tribal Human Resource policy. However, a cover letter, resume and clips can be sent digitally for preview to cary.rosenbaum@colvilletribes.com.

Additional information about the position, including its great benefits package, can be gained by calling Colville Tribal Human Resources at (509)634-2842.

The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation observe tribal member and Indian preference, as well as preference to honorably discharged veterans who are minimally qualified within each Indian preference code. Pursuant to Tribal Policy, this position is subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug testing.
