The Chattanooga Times Free Press is seeking an innovative designer who knows how to make pages pop and who is comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom. The successful candidate will have the ability to produce compelling and visually stimulating packages on deadline. Must be comfortable working in a variety of subject areas, including business, news, features and sports.

Must be able to work collaboratively with other designers. This position also will work with the photo staff, editors and reporters to plan design.

Knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop is essential. Knowledge of illustrator is a plus. Knowledge of AP style and the ability to proof and do rim and slot work is necessary.

Our newsroom produces a daily newspaper, a weekly entertainment tabloid, several weekly community papers, three monthly magazines and special sections throughout the year.

The Times Free Press is a successful mid-sized paper that can take your career to the next level. We are part of a financially solid company; we have a news hole that would be envied by most papers; and we're installing new printing presses that will allow color on almost every page. Encouraging creative, outside-the-box design is a top priority.

Chattanooga is a city on the rise. It is one of the top outdoor destinations in the country and has been a magnet for big industry in recent years. There is a thriving downtown along the Tennessee River. It's also an affordable place to live. The city is within a two-hour drive to Atlanta and Nashville.

Please send a resume, samples of your newspaper, web or magazine design work and a cover letter telling us why you want this job to Alison Gerber at agerber@timesfreepress.com.
