Diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Great writer, two young kids. Thoughts and prayers.

    How awful.

You're right. Thoughts and prayers. Both going on.

    Godspeed, Aaron.

Aaron's one of the best people in this biz. Funny. Genuine. And a terrific writer to boot. He's got a hell of a lot of people rooting and praying for him.

Hate to hear this. As others noted, a terrific guy (and columnist, though that hardly matters). Just sent him a birthday note on Facebook - today is his 36th birthday.

Jesus Christ. I was just thinking last night how I hadn't heard from him in a week or two. Figured he was on vacation.

Just a great, great guy, and as others have said, Aaron is one of the best in the business. My favorite columnist, not only in the state, but in the country.

    Really pulling for him.

Holy crap. Aaron was my neighbor many times in the Martinsville press box. Sending my very best thoughts to him and his family. Great guy.

Aaron's surgery has been bumped to Thursday.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

    Doug Doughty reports:

@aaronmcfarling is in recovery following brain surgery and is talking, according to his wife. Neurosurgeon said the procedure went well.

    Great news.

    From McFarling today:

Humbled and blessed by support from readers, colleagues and friends over past week. A million thank yous. It helped a ton.

Was hoping for a "Rookie of the Year" type of spike in brain function. No sign of that yet, but recovering well. Should be 100% in 2 wks
