Get out and away from super tourist stuff. One of my favorite things to do when we went was going out fishing with a guide who, while we were casting our rods, was diving with a spear gun gathering lobsters we would eat for lunch.

Where'd we eat lunch? The guide took the boat out to an island that was about the size of a football field, which was also a national park. We built a fire to cook the lobsters and snorkeled around the island seeing a lot of wildlife.

Now is that something a local is going to do? No, but it's also not packed with tourists.
