Yeah, someday he's going to finish in the top three in an event. Then what?

Fight it ahead of time. Gather as a group -- you're all there for the tournament, after all -- and tell them that unless the normal rules of PGA Tour events apply, with a media credential good for all press gatherings, not a single one of you will be attending. Then follow through with it.

And if they relent and say "OK, you can come in, but no questions," ignore it. Don't sign anything that agrees to their stipulation. And then start launching the questions, and if he walks away he looks like the ass. Really, this happens quite a bit, and this is how the media fights it.

Again, though, the golf media has slobbered over the guy for nearly 15 years, and aside from Charlie Pierce's story and the Enquirer/TMZ, not a single outlet has gotten close to who the guy is. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised if they fall in line again.

The last time Tiger Woods got in front of a camera, his approval rating was over 80 percent. Now it's at about 30 percent. The world has changed.

Speaking of Elin ... if that ends up being the way it all played out ... that she beat the shit out of him with the golf club ...

Why is she not in jail?

AP moving a story with some details on the presser:

Tiger to hold news conference Friday
    DOUG FERGUSON,AP Golf Writer

MARANA, Ariz. (AP) — Tiger Woods will end nearly three months of silence Friday when he speaks to the media for the first time about his middle-of-the-night accident that sparked shocking revelations about his infidelity.

Woods will talk to a small group of reporters at 11 a.m. Friday from the clubhouse of the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., home of the PGA Tour.

"This is all about the next step," Mark Steinberg, his agent, told The Associated Press. "He's looking forward to it."

Steinberg said he would speak to a "small group of friends, colleagues and close associates" about his past and what he plans next, along with apologizing for his behavior.

He said three wire services would be invited, and he was asking the Golf Writers Association of America to pick a small group of reporters to serve as a pool. Steinberg said there would be one pool camera, but it would be available live via satellite.

The news conference will be held during the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona, and is sure to steal attention away from the first big event of the year. Accenture was the first sponsor to drop Woods when he became embroiled in a sex scandal.

"It was a matter of timing," Steinberg said.

When asked if the news conference could have waited until after Accenture's tournament, he replied, "No."

"a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates." Any media members considered to be in this group obviously are no longer journalists but merely Tiger's friends and PR reps.

Tiger's really smart to do it this way. Invitation-only presser assures that TMZ doesn't get in there, NY Post Page Six, etc. etc.

And come on, to act like the media has the power over Tiger Woods is really ridiculous. Tiger's a global brand. He can make the rules for his own press conference. Some of you think you're more powerful than you are.

No questions allowed; this is a statement, not a press conference.

What is the situation, actually? A professional athlete cheated madly on his wife. He didn't kill anyone, commit crimes against society, he's not going to jail or standing trial. He's going to get up there, say he is horribly sorry for his actions and plans to spend the rest of his life working hard to be a better person, and he plans to get back to golf whenever.

I would guess the 'whenever' will be part of the statement.

Otherwise, he's just a publicly humiliated celebrity.

In other words, Tiger is issuing a "Fuck you, Accenture" with this.

    1. Woods never called the police to report an attack.

    2. The fact there were no witnesses makes it tough to charge her.
