People will notice, but it's still the way you try to bury a story...

Who will notice? This will appear in zero newspapers tomorrow. Even if it's confirmed in 10 minutes.
I have one source saying it's official, and FWIW, I don't think we've been wrong about a newspaper writer movement yet (but clearly, this is Watchdog's scoop).

People will notice when he's not in the mag. It's kind of hard to hide that.

Who gets Rick Reilly's backpage column?

Assuming he's gone (more than a couple people are saying this now), let's hear some names that will be considered.

Some will. He hasn't been must-read in a while. Many won't know he's gone.

We don't need multiple Reilly threads. Merge coming.

Well the Watchdog item says his contract will not be renewed. And his contract, per Watchdog, is up at month's end. So you'll see him for a couple more weeks.

A friend at SI told me weeks ago that Reilly has been on the shitlist at SI for a couple years now... They gave him a sweetheart contract several years back to keep him from going to ESPN that pretty much allowed him to do as he pleases, which is exactly what he's done...

I have even money that Reilly is at the WWL by Christmas...

No need for a second thread on the highest paid sports journalist in the business? The most famous sports journalism face in the industry?

I tend to think this is a big deal, but hey, I'm just a blogger.

They won't replace him... SI going downhill started when Reilly got the column and got even worse when Rushin's funny off-beat column became the piece of garbage that it was when they forced him out...
