    This story is crazy. Legit DI QB prospect with multiple offers injured in second game of season. Kid misses remainder of the regular season but returns for playoffs. New York has a rule that a kid must be dressed for three games or get a waiver. School failed/forgot to submit paperwork. Forfeit. Season over.

    It's everything you said ... but not uncommon.

    Weird story on several levels.

    1) The rule itself is stupid;

    2) Even granting the rule is stupid, why did the school not dress the kid out for the three required games and list him on the active roster, even though they had no intention of allowing him to set foot on the field?

    3) Why did the school not go to every length to make conclusively sure they were doing everything (i.e., get the waiver) to ensure the kid would be eligible? Their excuse seems to be, "we forgot but we never thought they would call us on it."

    My reading of the story is that the school didn't forget so much as the authority with whom the school conferred gave an incorrect answer. The authority mistakenly thought the kid would be on the field for the last regular-season game (which would have been No. 3) and concluded that all was clear. Only after winning the game was the eligibility question raised.
