Pelini's WORST record has been 9-4.
Whether he's an asshole or not, and quite frequently he is, that's still a pretty good record. If he gets cut loose at Lincoln, he won't be a prospect for the real upper-crust jobs, but you can bet a lot of the mid-level Big 5 schools will be interested.

If Pelini isn't adequate at Nebraska, god help him when he hits the SEC West.

Yes because a slightly-above average Big Ten coach like Nick Saban could never succeed in that league.

That makes sense....if SMU is joining the Big 12. Tuberville is listed at $3.2 at Cincy. Then O'Leary at UCF at $2.

Heck, according the what I read around here, Bret Bielema is a raging success there, as well.....since he's coaching the greatest mediocre / bad football team in the history of the footballs.......

It's not just Pelini's record, it's HOW they're losing games, particularly big games. They've been absolutely curb stomped, over and over, by the better teams they've played.

SMU should be damn lucky he hadn't landed anywhere yet. That's a very good hire.

You can be an asshole at Nebraska, go 11-1 and contend for a national title every year, and people don't care.
You can be an asshole at Nebraska, go 9-4 and play in the Independence Bowl, and people want you out on your ass.

The asshole is the joker here.

Nebraska hasn't been 'that kind' of a program for 15 years.

They can run Pelini out if they want but the odds they'll end up with somebody much worse are pretty good. What's Bill Callahan doing these days?

That's a good comparison. I think if Callahan would have won games, it'd be different.

Scott Frost would be Nebraska's home run hire this year.

Well if Charlie Weis had won games, things would be different for him, too.

Scott Frost has never head-coached a football team in his life. It might be a home-run hire, but it would be a wind-blown 305-footer at Coors Field.

Like Art Briles, Gus Malzahn and Hugh Freeze, Morris is a former high school coach. With the success those guys have had, it was just a matter of time before Morris got a Division I head-coaching job.

If Morris has any sort of success at SMU, he'll get a Big 12, SEC or ACC job within 3 years. Should Sumlin ever leave Texas A&M for the NFL, he would be a prime candidate there.
