Manistee is a nice small town right on Lake Michigan, about an hour south of Traverse City.

Not sure I can say much good about the newspaper, although it's been quite a while.

Beautiful country up there in Manistee. Not too far from Sleeping Bear Dunes, some great small towns on the Lake Michigan coast, and as we Michiganders say, that's "Up North" and it's great in the summer/fall. Not sure about the paper though, never heard anything bad about it.

Whoa, whoa, let's not toss around the term "Up North" too broadly. Manistee's the Lower Peninsula and it's south of the 45th Parallel. I know there are people who toss around "Up North" when talking about Ludington or even the Thumb, but there is a place for discretion. Manistee is closer to being "Up North" than some of those places, but still doesn't make the cut in my mind.

Clare bills itself as the "Gateway to the north," and it's about on the same parallel as Bay City.

Manistee — Nice area, according to Jim Price.
