Apologize if it's a d_b, but wanted to open this up on the board. Apparently the C-J's old circulation director is in an age discrimination trial.

If he wins this case, does it open Pandora's box? Or is it just an isolated case?

    He isn't going to win.

The emotional distress argument is poor, but the company's claims that they can't afford a lavishly-paid executive is laughable.

LTL called it! Gannett wins. Interesting, though, the C-J's reporter didn't sugarcoat anything.

Probably not too many Gannett fans in that newsroom.

Here's the WDRB (whose internet site has basically poached the best staffers at the C-J) story on the verdict:

    http://www.wdrb.com/story/26167526/jury-sides-with-gannett-c-j-in-age-discrimination-lawsuit

    And here's the penultimate graph:

Huot testified during the weeklong trial before Circuit Court Judge Fred Cowan that he hadn’t been able to find a similarly paying job because he lacks a college degree.

You know what? Fuck that guy. Not because he doesn't have a college degree (who cares) but because he thinks he DESERVES to find a similar paying job.

    Um, yeah, kinda agree.
The guy, to his credit probably with a lot of hard work, lucked into a plum position.
Imagine getting a $300K job with a lot perks without a college degree and in a dying industry. He won the lottery once. He should realize that he's not going to win the lottery again.

Is $325,000 a year the typical salary for a circulation director in a market like Louisville? That seems like a lot for a paper that size.

The "WDRB (whose internet site has basically poached the best staffers at the C-J)" line made me laugh out loud. Maybe I'm biased.
