Description:

Work schedule: Nights, weekends, some holidays (usually 3 to 11 p.m. shift)



Essential duties and responsibilities:

Works with the Sports Editor on the daily budget for the sports section.
Works with the designer of the section, helping to choose photographs and graphics to complement stories as well as re-working pages for breaking news.
Regularly monitors the wire services for possible stories and features, and puts sports roundups together.
Edits content for the newspaper (as well as our web sites), making sure to check for spelling, grammar and style.
Writes strong, creative headlines that will help pull readers into a story, and informative cutlines.
Proofs pages (you are our last line of defense).
Works with the part-time clerks to ensure Scores & More page (agate page) has correct content and is proofed.
Handles pressure under tight deadlines.


Experience: Three years of copy editing, preferably at a newspaper. Design experience a plus. Web editing a plus.



Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
