Description:
The Sentinel-News has an opening for a sports reporter/photographer. The paper is a twice-weekly publication (Wed./Fri.), with a Monday TMC product, that also publishes numerous special sections. Shelbyville is located on I-64, about 25 miles east of Louisville. The Sentinel-News can also be found online at www.sentinelnews.com.

Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree, journalism or related field preferred, or one or more year’s news writing experience for a weekly or multi-weekly newspaper • Be able to properly use digital camera • Experience with high school sports reporting a plus • Be able to balance 40-hour weeks, including primarily nights and weekend coverage, and have use of vehicle daily • Have high energy level and be self-motivated • Experience with In-Design a plus

Essential functions: • Cover assignments and two high school sports programs with timely stories and photos • Take initiative to pursue news/feature/photo opportunities • Contribute stories and photos for special sections of the paper • Be able to meet established deadlines of the newspaper • Design and lay out sports pages for each issue • Be available for night and weekend games coverage • Function effectively as member of news team
