Communications & Sports Information Specialist, Blinn College, Brenham TX

Blinn College in Brenham, TX is currently seeking a communications and sports information specialist. This position position handles both general news and sports releases for the College and manages the College's athletics website, www.buccaneersports.com.

Approximately 70% of the work relates to general news releases, and this position is responsible for generating news content from three of our four campuses -- Brenham, Schulenburg and Sealy. We obviously need someone who can write sports releases, but it's just as important that we find a candidate who will be passionate about our non-athletics stories.

The sports information aspect would allow you to cover some of the most successful two-year programs in the nation. In the past year, our volleyball, cheer and dance teams won national championships, our women's basketball team reached the elite eight at the national tournament and our baseball team placed 5th at the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, CO.

We prefer candidates with photography/video skills, but can train the right candidate.

Pay seems nice for the area but the thought of Brenham just depresses me. Any experiences with the area?

Blue Bell ice cream (made in Brenham) is damn good.

And I can buy Blue Bell in New York, what's your point?

You can? Wow, I could never find it anywhere I went outside of Texas. Didn't know they had gone national.

My point is it is something positive about Brenham, Texas.

Blue Bell ice cream is good? Always thought it was one of those cheap knockoff brands.

    End thread jack.

Actually, I don't know if it can be bought in New York. I know I can buy it here in the midwest, though.

Of course, now that I've said that, watch me go to the store and not find it...

It didn't come to Colorado until about 2009. Spent my first two years up here longing for it.

Anywhooo ... For someone wanting to jump into the SID game, this seems like a really good gig. Pays better than plenty of DI SIDs make.

Around here, Blue Bell is the most expensive stuff in the freezers (also bigger than the usual containers).

Well I guess if you live in Shangri-La, anywhere else must just suck.

Brenham is a great smallish town in a great location. Close to major cities and close to good recreation. I guess that COULD get depressing.

Blue Bell is all over Oklahoma. They have a factory in Broken Arrow near my house, too. Hold a "Taste of Summer" thing every year where you can eat all the ice cream you want for something like $5.

    1) Blue Bunny is here in Washington.

    2) Isn't this a job thread?

    3) Where's my ice cream?
