Since there's already a top albums list, I figured a top songs thread would be a good idea too.

I picked so many songs (mostly indie with a little mainstream mixed in) because of sleeplessness. I'd imagine most folks would put the brakes on their own list at 25, but if you want to pick 50 be my guest. :)

    Here's mine:

50.) Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken, Camera Obscura
49.) Back To Black, Amy Winehouse
    48.) Rush Hour Soul, Supergrass
    47.) My Shadow, Jay Reatard
    46.) Run, Snow Patrol
    45.) Club Foot, Kasabian
44.) Lola Stars And Stripes, The Stills
    43.) Jesus, Etc., Wilco
    42.) False Advertising, Bright Eyes
41.) Macy's Day Parade, Green Day
    40.) Apocalypso, Mew
39.) My Mistakes Were Made For You, Last Shadow Puppets
    38.) Maple Leaves, Jens Lekman
    37.) Hash Pipe, Weezer
    36.) Bad Cover Version, Pulp
35.) Tuna In The Brine, Silverchair
34.) Growing On Me, The Darkness
    33.) Stockholm Syndrome, Muse
32.) Understanding In A Car Crash, Thursday
    31.) Neighborhood #1, Arcade Fire
30.) Somebody That I Used To Know, Elliott Smith
29.) Winter In the Hamptons, Josh Rouse
    28.) Pool Song, Longwave
27.) The Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret, Queens Of The Stone Age
    26.) Kick Push, Lupe Fiasco
    25.) Lex, Ratatat
24.) Welcome To The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance
    23.) Grace Kelly, Mika
22.) Fake Tales Of San Francisco, Arctic Monkeys
21.) At Your Funeral, Saves The Day
20.) To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High), Ryan Adams
    19.) Lost Cause, Beck
18.) Inside Of Love, Nada Surf
17.) Stacy's Mom, Fountains Of Wayne
16.) One Armed Scissor, At The Drive In
15.) Inertiatic ESP, The Mars Volta
14.) Move Your Feet, Junior Senior
13.) Can You Tell, Ra Ra Riot
    12.) Obstacle 1, Interpol
    11.) 10 A.M. Automatic, The Black Keys
    10.) Shiver, Coldplay

Nice list, Trey. I'll give this a roll later on today maybe.

Haven't heard the first 10 songs you posted.

  4. I actually like a lot of Eminem songs, being a non-rap fan. But I thought "Stan" was an absolute disaster. He's way better when he sticks to being fun.

    Fail.

It's one of the greatest post-modern, self-aware songs ever written.

And "Eminem makes fun of lame celebs!" is the worst Eminem.

  6. I feel like "Stan" is beloved for the same reason Beck's "Sea Change" is so critically proclaimed - "Listen to the good-time guy get serious and mopey!!"

I own six songs on Trey's list. That may be the biggest upset yet.

No way am I trying to do a list like this, but if I did, Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day would make the cut.

Why are The Hold Steady (
    ) or The National (
) and Built to Spill (
) not on any of these lists?

Crap boobs crap, I wanted to start this thread but I was lazy. Oh well, I'll have my stupid butt list shortly.

This statement is dumb on many levels. But I'm not sure it's worth the time to explain why your opinion of this song is so off-the-mark, so unless you convince me that you're interested in looking at it from a different perspective, I think you'll just have to remain in the dark. I'll leave it up to you.

    Stan is a brilliant song.

  12. Explain it to me then. To me, it is no less manipulative than "One Shining Moment."
