Since there's already a top albums list, I figured a top songs thread would be a good idea too.

I picked so many songs (mostly indie with a little mainstream mixed in) because of sleeplessness. I'd imagine most folks would put the brakes on their own list at 25, but if you want to pick 50 be my guest.

Haven't heard the first 10 songs you posted.

 

I actually like a lot of Eminem songs, being a non-rap fan. But I thought "Stan" was an absolute disaster. He's way better when he sticks to being fun.

 

Fail.

It's one of the greatest post-modern, self-aware songs ever written.

And "Eminem makes fun of lame celebs!" is the worst Eminem.

 

I feel like "Stan" is beloved for the same reason Beck's "Sea Change" is so critically proclaimed - "Listen to the good-time guy get serious and mopey!!"

 

I own six songs on Trey's list. That may be the biggest upset yet.

 

No way am I trying to do a list like this, but if I did, Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day would make the cut.

Why are The Hold Steady (

) or The National (

) and Built to Spill (

) not on any of these lists?

 

Crap boobs crap, I wanted to start this thread but I was lazy. Oh well, I'll have my stupid butt list shortly.

 

This statement is dumb on many levels. But I'm not sure it's worth the time to explain why your opinion of this song is so off-the-mark, so unless you convince me that you're interested in looking at it from a different perspective, I think you'll just have to remain in the dark. I'll leave it up to you.

 

Stan is a brilliant song.

 

Explain it to me then. To me, it is no less manipulative than "One Shining Moment."
