Yes. Yes I am. You found me out.
Or it could be that Media Day is two hours long.

And that during those two hours, the coaches and players say nothing newsworthy but the readers still expect front-page stories.

From the SWAC? But seriously, there are some good stories there.

Local PGA Tour stop gassed its media day this year. Let's hope they don't gas the free lunch since I can no longer write stuff off on the expense account.

This whole videoconferencing thing just seems incredibly inconvenient and difficult.

That's to accomodate media members who have had their work weeks cut to 32 hours. Those two-hour days come in handy.

How many media guys would be traveling to the events these days anyway?
We used to send an entire crew out to the WAC Media days...now it's one guy running the whole show.  Camera, lighting, interviewing, editing.  Travel budgets have been gutted as it is.  May as well Skype it, I guess.

Media Days are mostly useless PR and photo ops. If it isn't in your backyard, there is no reason for any newspaper to spend money on them.

I used to be an SID at a non-football Sun Belt school, and the basketball media days were pretty much a waste of time and money before the recession. But it was a free two or three days in New Orleans, so I wasn't complaining.

They are doing this on the lower college levels too, for example, the New Jersey Athletic Conference for Division III football is doing their media day on the web too.

media days for my conference is next week. i'm guessing there will be only four or five of the nine schools with writers present and some won't even have their radio play-by-play person in attendance.

I'd bet it's the last year.

I thought if you headed to media days with a few feature/trend ideas -- both for the days around media days and for the long-term future -- it could be a useful event to get some face time with the other coaches and athletes. Especially if you have coaches who don't return phone calls from out-of-town media.

Thereby answering the question: If the NJAC stopped hosting a media day, would it make a sound? Cheesy
