    E. Kentucky 49, Kentucky St. 1, 5 innings, second game ccd.

Just moved on the AP wire.

Kentucky State is awful in baseball, and not much better in any other sport.

I honestly thought about starting this thread when I saw this score.

The better part? The anotation that the second game of what was meant to be a doubleheader was cancelled.

Since I was curious, I'm sure others are too:

    KSU 100 00 - 1 8 9
    EKU (22)5(19) 3x - 49 38 0

That 1-0 lead slipped away pretty quick.

One of the best stories I ever wrote came from a 24-0 college baseball game.

The losing team, from a small school with limited resources, just got its ass kicked by the big major university of the state. It was almost BP.

Coach bared his soul to me. I wrote it all down. Made him the lede.

Few months later he was looking for work.

    Shit happens.

Isn't there some kind of mercy rule -- like if you are down more than 20 after three innings the game is over?

EKU -- the winning team -- actually did not put the score of the game in the recap on their Web site.

    From the LiveStats:

-- One EKU starter went 2-for-6; every other starter had 3 or more hits.

-- The line for EKU's No. 5 hitter: 8-6-7-11. Two home runs.

-- EKU had 12 hits in the first inning, 16 in the third.

-- Kentucky State actually has two wins this year, but in the last 10 games they've reported stats for, they gave up 17 runs or more seven times.

Kentucky State is a D-II school, and I think it's a historic black college.

EKU started its season with a 17-6 home loss to baseball power Oakland.

It is a HBCU, and they were awful in baseball when I worked in Frankfort a few years back.
