Nice work on the daily award, Tacoma.

Does anyone remember what dates were to be submitted?

this doesn't fully answer your question, but I recall Super Bowl Sunday being one of them and the Sunday after the Wimbledon women's final being one of them.

That's for the Sundays, not the dailies, yes? Were the daily dates picked by each staff or by APSE?

Oh yeah, I thought you were just asking for any of the mandatory dates. Those were the two mandatories (I believe) for Sunday and then you'd submit two more of your own choosing. Same with the daily sections. Two and two.

Big ol' thumbs-up on daily section to Toby Carrig, who put together our football-tab exchange here. Great to see.
Thanks, I can say I was happy to have a part in the Missourian sections, but the heavy lifting for the past year was done by Kevin Winters Morris and the gang. I did most of my toiling on the Internets with BLOGS!
We've been close before, and I'm glad the under-20 division recognizes some of those papers that do good work, regardless of how it would have turned out for us. I hope more papers under 20,000 take the opportunity to participate in the future.

The two mandatory dates for dailies were March 6 and Nov. 28.

I can't keep track of what's been up here already and what's not, but I know there are a few categories in particular in this new batch that weren't before. Sorry for repeats.

Congratulations to all who had their work recognized.

I'm in shock over the LA Daily News, for multiple reasons.

If I'm not mistaken, that's usually the category with the fewest number of papers. Congrats to Palm Beach though, they are almost always the best in this group and deservedly so.

No Milwaukee winners in the 100,000-250,000 category, no less. Didn't they used to be in the bigger category or am I imagining that?

Conspiracy theorists are taking a beating this year.

Yep.  Because papers everywhere now are going to post that list with a note that says "YOUR NAME AIN'T ON HERE?  THEN GET THE HELL OUT."

Just found out I won my first APSE the day after we got our fourth section award under three editors. Been a good couple days after a couple real shitty ones. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little giddy today.

Yay, more Oregon family! Congrats to Adam Jude! Way to represent the RG this year ... Jude, Moseley and Schroeder! Nice work, Eugene.

Also, many kudos to John Canzano and Rachel Bachman, two Oregonian folks who do great work day in and day out.

Finally, a big congrats to Sandy Ringer at the Seattle Times!

I think Dan Wiederer in Fayetteville placed three times in 40-100. I always remember that name because he wrote a really good column on the APSE a few years ago about keeping the faith, appreciating the job you have now, etc., etc. It was the kind of thing that now would be greeted with a chorus of "Piss offs," but at the time it struck a really good chord, unlike the Lynn Hoppes piece earlier this year. It was really well done.
