Best baseball trades
«
on:

In the spirit of the Josh Hamilton for Edinson Volquez deal, I'm trying to put together a little list of the recent baseball trades that worked out well for both teams. Say over the last 10 years or so.
Off the top of my head, Beckett-Lowell for Hanley Ramirez is one of them. I'm sure I'll overlook some if I do it myself, so I wanted to enlist the collective brain power of sj.com.
(This is for my Sunday notes, by the way.)
Thanks in advance for your help.

The Braves traded a used bat bag and a case of beer for Mike Hampton.
That turned out GREAT... for Colorado/Florida.

Make sure you don't put Placido Polanco for Ugueth Urbina out there.
Someone just had to go setting people on fire and killed the thing.
Although, the Phillies still got to start their every day second baseman, and the Tigers got a hell of a second baseman.

OK, give the Royals the one good one they got: Soria (from the Mets) for Burgos.

Soria was a Rule V pick from the Padres. It was Bannister they got from the Mets.

Knew you would come through on your assignment. Same I'm sure for Redenbacher. Will no doubt have to track down that fuckin' alabia, per usual, to get his (her?) contribution.

This column contains unverified information and uninformed opinons generated by anonymous posters on a sports message board. The author of this column is not responsibe for that information and those opinion, only for his own laziness in not researching this information himself.

It's not a notes column in the traditional sense. It's more of a quick-hits kind of bloggy thing.
Obviously I'm doing some research on my own, but I just wanted to make sure I didn't overlook anything, since this is sort of subjective list.
Glad I can count on sj.com for a smart-aleck response, though.

Not sure it worked out great for the Rangers, but the Adrian Gonzalez and Chris Young deal worked out great for the Padres.
Also, the Derrek Lee for Kevin Brown worked out pretty good for both teams. (Lee went from the Padres to the Marlins).

And Bobby Abreu for Kevin Stocker.
That certainly helped both sides.

Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas and a couple of others.
There's also Glenn Davis for Pete Harnisch, Steve Finley, and Curt Schilling.
Mike Boddicker to the '88 BoSox for Schill and Brady Anderson.

That might honestly be the most lopsided trade of all-time.

I think the Orioles liked the Milt Pappas for Frank Robinson trade. I don't think the Reds were quite so enamored with the deal in retrospect.
