I LOVE THE HOOSIERS!

Ignore
« on: April 06, 2008, 02:40:13 PM »

Sent to me via the Pipeline.  I can't imagine how ugly things may get out there:

Dave:
My statement that you are the worst newsman I've known is fact in
that it is limited to the ones I have worked with. There maybe
someone worse out there, God help us, but I haven't come across him
or her yet. And my statement is supported by the factual points that
follow it.
As for not knowing who controls hiring and firing of editors, are
you suggesting you actually fought to keep Ron in the position? Or
that you are totally powerless because your move to the Mercury News
was a demotion? You used to be over DN editorial.
If you had nothing to do with it, why were you the messenger to
Ron? Because he would take it better from you? Or because the
publisher who ordered the mass slaughter in February didn't have the
nerve but you did? And with your personal ties to the DN, why didn't
you see to it that the newsroom was informed?
I stand by everything I wrote.

>Val:

>of me I do believe you have forgotten that I recommended Ron to be
the
>editor of the paper and supported his many efforts to do something
>different, because the paper has and continues to suffer financially.
>But get this straight: I do not control the fate of editors. The
>publisher of each newspaper does. You are making the worst mistake
that
>a reporter can make -- though that's not surprising to me -- in
assuming
>what my role may or may not have been in terms of Ron. You don't have
>the facts, mam.

That's awesome stuff. LAObserved would have killed for this.

They got nothing on The Pipeline, I'm telling you, nothing.
Though they may be ahead of me in St. Louis.  Talking about a Pipeline drying up.

Val was one of the 22 let go in February. She can say what everyone else is thinking. And yes, I can confirm the staff was informed of Ron's departure by laobserved.com

The editors were told a few days earlier, but asked to keep it quiet.

New editor is some lady from Monterrey, supposedly.

If the new editor is Carolina Garcia, she will be a 180-degree turn from Ron Kaye in personality and approach.

Calling out The Butler is a great public service. Val scores points for that, and even more for striking some pretty raw nerve tissue. Hey Butler, if you really had nothing to do with Ron Kaye's ouster, why's are you squirming? Why are you even responding?

Hey, hey, laobserved.com noticed Moddy's efforts.
The pipeline is truly amazing.

The LAObserved piece also hit poynter, and that is where I saw it.
I don't normally dive too deep into the Zell hatefest that is LAobserved, but much thanks to The Good Doc for righting my link laziness.

Umm, ohhh-kay. I suppose one could draw that conclusion about laobserved, since they have had plenty of entries about the Zell takeover of Tribune. But it's only the biggest newspaper in town, and the only one (besides OCR) ostensibly still trying to practice decent journalism. You'll have to forgive them for devoting some time to Zell's consistent mishaps and the LAT's problems (financial and editorial) the last few months.

LAObserved is a tremendous site. Lots more on there than a "Zell hatefest".

I keed, I keed.
LAObserved is a pretty good window into the SoCal media world even though I am a distant observer. I was just hoping that the good peeps behind the site, since they pay such close attention to the goings on at sj.com, would give another shoutout to the Moddy.
Moddy needs all the love he can get.

Yes I do, especially after the weekend I had.  Sick, Nats losing, getting my ass jumped by whinysj.com's membership.  I need love and a new pair of shoes or two.

Whinysj.com is only a very, very, very small percentage of the SJ.com Nation I love, by the way.
