Could get interesting if the lawsuits start flying. I guess this is kind of like McNamee buzzing Clemens' chin.

Also interesting that we've never heard the word "lawsuit" mentioned by Clemens or any of his lawyers (unless I missed it). If it all was untrue, I'd be filing a lawsuit the next day.

One of Clemens' people said something to that effect. Basically "anyone who keeps saying it better have a damn good lawyer."

Which isn't quite the same thing, is it?

"We are filing suit" would carry so much more force that what the lawyer said.

Yeah, that's like a coach who is about to take another job saying "I'm happy to be coaching at Disco Tech." It could very well be an attempt to lead you to believe that they might sue even though they could possibly have no intention of doing so.

As my attorney said when I asked him to send someone a threatening letter,

"I don't believe in threatening to sue."

The first editor I ever had was pretty terrible but he taught me one great thing -- it's not a story when someone threatens to sue, it's a story when someone files a lawsuit.

Strangely enough, it never has made the Big Dance. (I actually hate when people call the NCAA tournament that, but I couldn't resist.)

This sounds like one of those issues where it's nothing more than a war of words to see who has the bigger dick.

We already know the answer to that question.

And it isn't the guy renowned for throwing a piece of bat at somebody.

Notice how Clemens dances around making any statement that McNamee is lying or untruthful.  He just says his version of the facts, which does not subject him to any potential liability for libel.

Interesting that McNamee is represented by a NY heavy hitter in libel.  Bet that's got Clemens' attorneys changing their game plan.

My bet is that Clemens never ever says that McNamee is lying.  He'll just dance around it and say "I've said my story, you draw your own conclusions."

You hit the nail on the head.
If he were lying he'd have a case for perjury and you gotta believe he'd have filed it a day or two after the Mitchell report came out after consulting with his lawyers. Clemens is trying to protect his legacy that's been shit on without putting himself in a position that makes him look like a bigger jackass and without admitting his guilt.

Just like Bonds...wasn't threatening to sure because the book wasn't true, just how the information was obtained.

Anyone with a hundred bucks and a lawyer can file a lawsuit.

Everyone will report that the suit was filed, and everyone will lose interest long before the thing is settled.  Clemens pockets are a lot deeper than mcnamee's.

Hey at least I'm owning up to letting some unlicensed clown with no medical training use a syringe on my ass.  Everybody does that right?  I'm only worth millions but I've got my batboy injecting me.  Don't want to waste any money on real medical help.

Lidocaine? Sweet jeebers that cracks me up. I use lidocaine patches for pain in my rotator cuff (two surgeries on it)....trust me, that does nothing for his "defense."

I'm still sick at the news about the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association allowing him to speak on his "workout" routine. Talk about placing their priorities.....

For as much as I respect Clemens on the field, he's a slimy prick. And he only gets worse.
