Don't know that we've ever done this before. Obviously the market you're in affects your pay. I was just more curious than anything.

You don't have to post your salary here. Just mark it in the poll.

What about those who are more than 10 years and/or more than 70K?

Find a spot in a graveyard and wait?

Still don't work. I have 30-plus years, not 15-20.

Spnited asks a serious question.  I have more than 30 years.  I make more than the top amount listed here.  So do others on here.  We just not vote?

Sorry, Moddy. I can add some more. It only showed 10-15 initially because I hit enter too soon.

I already have a pretty good idea how people are paid, but it's always interesting to look out. There used to be a site long ago - poisonkitchen.com - that had a great salary survey for journalists. Anyone else visit that site in its heyday? It was great. You could find papers by state and anonymously praise or shred them - kinda like here.

Before I vote, I need to know, for years, should I count all 18 years I've been at the paper or just the 8 years I've been full-time?

no category where I fit, so I'll just go ahead and embarrass myself.

Just started by 22nd year at my current gig (plus 6 years previous at a bi-weekly).

My salary? 40 grand... pathetic, I know.

BTW: I'm 43...

There's a couple of things I could have done better. It was a combination of doing it a bit too quickly and underestimating the number of veterans. I also wish I had done a few more categories in between 15 years and 25 years ...

I know a certain someone who could have done much better with this poll, W-b. But have a good Christmas anyway.

"Decent" is awfully subjective. It largely depends on where you live and what kind of lifestyle you want to lead. $35K will last you a lot longer in Casper, Wyo., than in Chicago.

I now make more than THREE times as much as The Queen and I made together when we bought our first house 27 years ago.
Why, she asked, did it seem like we had more money then?

Well, we've raised two kids.  One remains in college.   We're older, we have more medical issues.  Shit costs more.  We "upgraded" our house.   We have four sofas and not just one.   All that kind of stuff.

She keeps talking about "simplifying" and "downsizing" once the youngest finishes school.   I'm all for downsizing.  I need this big yard like I need hemorroids now.  I don't go out back and play catch with my son or hit the field hockey ball with my daughter.  The pups love the space but they're getting older, too, and slowing down.  We'll be in a condo or townhouse in 3-4 years.  Or an old folks' home.  My son says he'll make sure it is a good one before he shufffles us off.
