If they beat Purdue, then I would put them in. Purdue's got a really good offense and they're
really
going to test Michigan with that spread offense. So far, Michigan's record against the spread o= 0-2
Only thing is, Purdue's played four very weak non-conference games, so I look at that offense with a grain of salt.
Is that because Kansas has played two of those opponents?

I also went with Kansas, even though they haven't played anyone and they have all been at home, but the Jayhawks have done what top 25 teams are supposed to do, which is absolutely destroy them.
This seems like a good time to state again that I have not voted for KU. If they're in the top 25, don't look to me.
And friend of a friend, you nailed it. If I'm not ranking KU based on non-conference schedule, I better treat Purdue just the same. KU did beat both common opponents by larger margins, but I'll wait for conference play before I take the leap on both.

Sounds like a good idea, Oz. I don't even think beating Notre Dame should get Purdue ranked. Never thought I would say that.

Why aren't we high on Arizona State?
They haven't played a great schedule, admittedly, but they've dominated most of the teams they've played.
They're best in the Pac-10 in defense (19th in the nation), and 3rd in the Pac-10 in offense at 450.5 a game. They've got balance on offense, averaging over 150 yds/rush a game.
Are they a prefect team, hell no. They have a tendency to start slow, and the Beavers may or may not have exposed a flaw in their passing defense (hard to tell b/c of how crummy they were as a team in the first quarter), but considering the crap-fest that goes on from about 15-25, it seems like they should be in there somewhere.
Just one man's opinion, of course.
But I think they're better than Purdue or Mich State among the undefeateds, and at least Va. Tech among the 1-loss teams. (I'd also argue to have them above Hawaii, Penn State and Georgia, but those are more contentious.)

I don't understand how anyone can rank West Virginia so high when their opponents to date have notched a lovely 4-11 record. I'd put them down with the other teams that haven't lost but haven't played anyone yet. They might be better, but they haven't proven it yet.

Rivals.com has a list of the college football teams he ranks 1-120. It's not the sj.com poll, but it's cool to see 1-120 and laugh at the fact that one school that's pretty close to where I live actually cracked the top 100.

That Rivals list has Louisville all the way down at 74. Louisville hasn't looked good at all, but I don't think they're that bad.

WEEK 4 -- Sept. 24, 2007
By SLAPPY 4428
SJ.COM POLLMEISTER
Things I found really cool this week while trying to get real work done...
--- Had one blogger write and tell me he was going to put the poll on his newspapers website, which I thought was pretty cool. He also told me that he would have used the story too, but I used "boobies,"ť "hell,"ť and "he the she it"ť and his newspaper wouldn't have allowed it.
So I won't do that anymore.
--- Bet he won't like describing the mascot of the team in 32nd as the "Blue Bird of Cocksuckery"ť either.
--- It sucks watching an over-rated team fall hard; losing to a lesser opponent and losing all your poll votes overnight. Here's to you Wofford!
--- I vowed I wouldn't write about Alabama this week, but this one is too good.
An Alabama fan drunk-dialed an Tide assistant coach and chewed him out late Saturday night after of the loss to Georgia. It seems the drunk dialer lost a significant piece of coin while betting on the Tide.
When Nick Saban found out, he was furious. In the future, no incoming calls will be allowed after a Bama loss within the 205 area code. Unless it's by him. And since he has no time for phone calls... you get the idea.
--- Has the Purdue-Minnesota game ended yet?
--- Flavors of the Day: Sweet -- Arizona State, Kentucky and Missouri; Sour -- Louisville, Texas A&M and Nebraska.
--- The good news is Notre Dame's offense finally scored. The bad news is it still averages 3.5 points per game.
--- Nice job by the Washington State defense. Talk about taking it up the Wazzu.
--- Has anyone sent Dennis Franchione a box of Depends yet? Last time I saw adults lay those kind of turds in public, we put my grandmother in a home.

Nebraska beats Ball State by 1 at home and they move up a spot?
And why is Boise State suddenly getting votes again? The Broncos haven't played anyone good since their loss to Washington. So why are they being rewarded for beating crap?

Is that Alabama story a joke?
TUSCALOOSA | Nick Saban doesn’t want University of Alabama football fans to shower opposing players with garbage. He’s not too fond of late-night phone calls from irate fans, either.
The head coach of the 22nd-ranked Crimson Tide spoke out on fan behavior at his Monday press conference in the wake of the aftermath of Saturday’s overtime loss to Georgia, where fans in the UA student section threw cups and other objects onto the field where Georgia players were celebrating their victory.
“I don’t think it’s classy to throw something on somebody else,” Saban said. “I don’t think it’s classy to call somebody’s house at night and complain about something. I don’t think any of that’s classy.
“If anybody out there that’s our fans and our supporters don’t think all the coaches here … work hard and want to win as bad as anybody, as well as the players, trust and believe in that. Trust and believe in doing it right. If you want to do something, do something positive to support the program or don’t do anything at all.”
Saban didn’t get specific about the offending phone call, but said no one called him to complain, sparking speculation that a member of his coaching staff received a call from an unhappy fan.
“I don’t answer my phone anyway,” he said.

I know you would like it. Not going to get it. I have had a discussion with the party and a need to pay careful attention to the games and scores played over the weekend and have been assured it won't happen again. Because it won't.

Are you trying to say that Mizzou teams don't do well when there are high expectations or they are ranked?!?!?!
I've never seen Mizzou be a preseason top 5 in basketball and then lose in the first round of the NIT or have a chance to win the North and choke or win a conference title in the last 10 years.
I think the Fighting Gary Pinkel's can beat Nebraska at home. They have the past two times, lets not talk about the 25 years before that or in Lincoln. It's once MU has control of the North that I'm scared at about. It's that point when you start to wonder "how will they screw this up?"

And South Carolina played LSU tougher than anyone has this year. Don't understand Nebraska still being ranked and Penn State is iffy as well. If you rank them you might as well rank Michigan State.
