More from The Pipeline:
Marc Spears from the Denver Post to the Boston Globe. Don't know exactly what he's going to be doing.
Supposedly this is the Borges "slot," but it isn't necessarily to do the Pats.

Good for Marc... Great NBA reporter... I'm surprised the Post was able to keep him as long as they did...

Covering the Celts. Might develop into more in the coming years.

Glad to hear he's staying on the NBA...

Sure. Everyone's jumping on the Celtics bandwagon. I'm sticking with Minnesota.

Now here's the $64,000 question - will Denver hire to fill the vacancy left by Spears, or reorganize the beats somehow?

I believe Marc is doing NBA, not the Celtics beat.

So does this mean the pasture for Peter May?

After all of the buyouts, I'd be surprised to see the Post filling any spots. Last I heard (a couple of months ago) the Post had a hiring freeze, but maybe that's just a nice way of saying they don't want my clips.

Especially a national job like this one... I'd be surprised if they replaced Spears...

Nope. Nice way of saying Dean Singleton owns our paper.

Not only a hiring freeze, but there was just a second round of buyouts and also some non-union people were laid off.

Definitely Celtics beat. Maybe NBA in the future.

I would be surprised if this was filled. In the current climate, the "national" jobs are pretty expendible. I have no inside info here -- this is just a guess -- but I wouldn't be surprised if they reorganized. On the other hand, they have national writers for NHL, MLB and college football/basketball; it would be pretty hard to justify having a national guy for those beats and not the NBA.

Did anyone in sports take a buyout?

I believe only copy editor Gary Yunt took the buyout, but Jason Blevins (outdoors/extremes) was moved to enterprise in news. And writer Robert Sanchez left for 5280 Magazine.

I thought that was the first round... Good to know there aren't more coming (I hope...)
