Easy to answer -- idiots are getting elected in districts chock full of idiots. Two of the congressional "masterminds" of the riot were Andy Biggs and Paul Gosar. They represent rural Arizona. When the voters are uneducated crazy people you're going to end up with clowns in congress.

It's why you see fewer lunatics in the senate. It's really hard to win statewide races when you're insane, at least in most states. But those rural districts? Easy.

 

Not seeing a story or even a headline anywhere.

 

Again, Pelosi and McCarthy have some power here. They can make sure the Qanon bimbos in the House won't get any plumb committee assignments and won't be able to do jackshit for their districts. The time to rein in their batshit crazy power trips is right now.

If Trump gives himself a legally dubious self-pardon, there might be more incentive for senators to convict him, even after he is out of office. Whatever a pardon for Trump might be, it would not protect him from the impeachment trial in the senate.

 

On the bright side, this could lead to more AMTRAK funding. Infrastructure Week!
