NFL Wild Card weekend (and Black Monday) thread

I think Lynn will coach again - I don't know if he would have done much better with the Chargers next year. Have to think he'll end up replacing Fangio in Denver at some point.

 

Rivers has a better playoff record than I expected. Maybe I didn't remember his wins because they all came in the Wild Card round. It's the divisional round that trips him up. His only trip to the conference title game came in 2008, I think.

Tampa will likely be without linebacker Devin White, who is on the COVID list. That is a big hit to the run defense and the pass rush. I'm not sure if he would have been eligible Sunday, but playing that game Saturday definitely doesn't help the Bucs.

 

The Browns put defensive end Olivier Vernon tore his Achilles tendon yesterday, which will end his season. The Browns will enter the playoff game next week without their second-best pass rusher.

 

For a long time now, the Chargers have been the "good, not good enough" AFC team. Like the NFL's version of the Atlanta Hawks, but more end game misery.

 

I fully expect Rivers to throw an interception at the absolute worst time to lose the game.

 

Hate to interrupt you, Mr. Rivers, as you try for your 17th kid or whatever, but those aren't great numbers.

 

Of Rivers' 6 playoff losses, three are against the Patriots -- 2 when they made the Super Bowl and one they won -- one is against the Steelers when they won the Super Bowl and one is to the Broncos when they lost the Super Bowl. His only playoff loss that looks weird in hindsight is to the Jets.

 

For me, the most amazing playoff stat is that Eli played in only 6 playoff seasons and was 1 and done in 4 of them. He was 8-0 the other two years, including 5 road games and 2 Super Bowls.
