In 1920, Socialist candidate Eugene V. Debs did run from a prison cell. He was serving a trumped-up sentence for impeding the war effort. Got a lot of votes, too.

I wonder if any states have laws that prevent felons from getting their names on the ballot. Just because someone meets the three constitutional requirements to run for president, it doesn't say states are required to put you on the ballot. Heck, your name doesn't have to go on the ballot if you get your paperwork wrong.
If they don't have them, state legislatures could put such a law in place over the next four years. Granted, the states that would actually do it, Trump wouldn't win anyway.
I'm not overly concerned about him in 2024. I'm more concerned about what he could mess up between now and Jan. 20.

Deputy Dawg gonna Deputy Dawg 'til the end.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is still not ready to acknowledge Joe Biden as president-elect, despite President Donald Trump's administration having now cleared the way for the transition to begin.
Asked during his weekly briefing whether he considered Biden president-elect, Lee declined to answer, saying he is aware that the federal General Services Administration is moving forward with transition plans.
"I've been pretty focused on what's happening right here and not nationally," Lee said.
He said he was waiting on the president's ongoing court battles that challenge election outcomes – litigation the Trump campaign is overwhelmingly losing – and for the transition process to unfold.
"I think when the process is complete then, that'll be the time," Lee said. "I don't know when that process will be complete. We can watch and see."

JFK mingled with Carl Sandburg. Trump approvingly retweets Randy Quaid.

JFK held a dinner for all living American Nobel Prize winners. It is hard to think of a President since, Republican or Democrat, who'd have done the same. Maybe Obama, maybe, but if he thought about it, he probably didn't want to be seen as a copycat. JFK was of a period where "having a lot of smart people" was seen as part of America's overall exceptional superiority. Now such a dinner would be blasted as an "elitist" putdown of the common (white) man.

Felons are not allowed to hold public office in Florida unless pardoned by the governor.

I've always loved that photo. The blast of flash in the foreground; the old-time Ektachrome richness of the blue in Kennedy's suit; the mustard yellow Chanel in the background; the sunlight on the floor; Sandburg pigeon-toed, and the presidential cigarettes in the crystal cigarette holder.

And the one thing I'll ever have in common with Carl Sandburg - putting that extra throw pillow on my lap.
