I think what we need is a Running Lee Disasters Thread.

I don't know when the World was great. I'll take your word for it. During the 2007 PGA at Southern Hills their coverage was hands-down the worst I've ever seen of a local paper at a golf major championship city.

They got bankrupted by all the newsprint they wasted on white space in the early aughts.

Why do the top executives at these newspaper companies make so much money?? Can't anybody do what they are doing? Losing tons of cash and laying off people? What makes them worth so much cash?

The same reason pretty much anyone else in this country is worth a lot of cash.

I do believe that. Thing is ... with newspaper top dawgs who make seven figures, it's such a non-sequitir considering nobody wants a newspaper, nobody buys a newspaper. People under 30 don't even know what a newspaper is. Also, the Internet experiment for newspapers did not work. Newspapers are never going to make money via the online product. And these upper end execs make seven figures for an industry that is finished. It's just bizarre, that's all. It's like paying a relief pitcher who gets torched every single time he takes the mound a cool 10 million per season.
