The Senate is designed the way it is.

Nothing is stopping anyone from living in any state of the union, and nothing is stopping the Democrats from catering their platform to winning the Senate that they’ve had control of many times.

The Democrats had 60 Senators in 2009. They had the majority until 2015. The notion they can never hold it again is silly. They might win it this year. But it won't matter if they don't get rid of the filibuster, which all Senators love, because 1. It gives the minority undue power. 2. It completely shields the majority from responsibility in governing.

The problem with the filibuster is they never actually filibuster. The point is to slow down business, but no longer having to take the floor and be public about your opposition means there is no political risk of alienating voters and causing political harm if your opinion is unpopular. You can even "sidetrack" a bill without saying anything (the blue slip) and business will go on. I have no problem with Senators using the levers of power they have, but they should need to be public about it.

Mittens is a lock to make 3.

But they need 4, and I question the Concerned One's solidarity if Snapper decides to press the issue before the vote. So really they need 5. It'll take a couple from deep left field like Sasse and someone else from a blue state in grave danger.

Sasse will deliver some empty oratory about it and do nothing.

He is Hamlet with none of the charm.
