They finally were changed recently to allow schools the option of offering guaranteed scholarships. That doesn’t necessarily mean they will. Some schools have, and others have not.

Major conferences have guaranteed them for four years. PAC 12 did so in 2015.

In a way - the gambit by the players makes a lot of sense, ask for everything and maybe the conference will feel like they are throwing you a bone by agreeing to the heath demands (which might be their main goal). I don't think anyone would argue that a healthy young athlete should have confidence that before they put their future health at risk for Old State U, (whether they have pro prospects or not) - they should get more from the administration than a "trust us."

As for the rest? Really a bad time to be asking for a cut, when coaches are already giving up salaries and staffers are losing jobs.

Pretty soon they're going to start threatening to shoot one hostage every half-hour until their demands are met.

The leader of the Pac-12 student-athletes group has some more demands:

That may be my favorite scene ever in any movie.

Nil. ND likes independence because it allows them to play across the country and to remain a national brand. There are more Californians than Hoosiers in the student body. That matters because Californians are, as a group, more likely to be full-paying customers than others.
They have such a committed group of local alumni organizations that they have an astounding alumni annual-giving rate. They like things just as they are.

Addazio had enough players shit on him after his BC tenure to believe that there's smoke to that fire.

Although the Patchan brothers, both Scott and his older brother Matt, will die on the cross defending Addazio.
