Obviously football is going to take a hit - football takes a hit the entire athletic department takes a hit, meaning the loss of probably a soccer team (M), track team (M) or baseball team (M) since you have to balance out the scholarships and football takes so many. Heck all three of those sports together probably don't total 30 full-ride scholarships.

P5 posturing through the media, which is more than willing to allow itself to be used in that manner.

You heard it here first: If there is no college footbawwwl, the blame will rest entirely with the libruhl media and not school administrators who are somewhat queasy about the idea of forcing people to play a game defined by contact.

Contract negotiations are not that fun an exciting. They are often protracted, punishing affairs. Ask anyone who has negotiated a contract.

Well, shit. What were they thinking? Asshole lie-beral media strikes again.

Not as much fun as getting infected with a potentially deadly disease while serving as unpaid entertainment

I wouldn’t be surprised if this leads to players organizing into a union, Northwestern be damned.

Caveat emptor. If you're in a union, you're an employee, and you can get fired for missing a field goal. You're also subject to taxes. Not sure that's the way to go.

Or the opportunity just goes away. More college admin than you think will just punt on the enterprise if it comes to all that.

How not in charge are these players that they think asking for hundreds of thousands of dollars in salary two weeks before camp is reasonable tactic? Even the media was skeptical. And that’s the media!

On the other hand ... will there ever be a time that a threatened walkout has higher stakes for college football players/programs?

The Pac-12 and other Power-5 conferences are desperate for any revenue they can get from football, after missing one NCAA men's tournament. Potentially missing out on a season of college football money would be a devastating financial blow.

(Note: I'm not commenting on the demands of the Pac-12 players, just on their timing. If ever there was a season to go for it, this is it).

    Easily manipulated. Myopic.
If you want people to take you seriously, break your statement into two parts: the immediate and the long-term.
Say you're not playing this year unless health and safety issues are sufficiently addressed. Then say that once the season ends, you'll start expecting the Pac 12 to become a leader in redress of other grievances.
