    The Washington DC's ...

Seems like a top 5 sports moment in my lifetime kind of thing.

Washington Redskins are no longer the Washington Redskins.

It's peak level Snyder that even the memo about changing the nickname has a huge picture of the old logo, and the old nickname is used prominently in the subhead.

They should use an online suggestion/voting competition because I want to hear fans cheering for something similar to the Bally McBall Faces.

Stories say the announcement of a new name is being held off "to resolve copyright issues."
That means it's something somebody else is using -- or has used and somebody still owns the copyright.

Which could mean Warriors (NBA), Federals (USFL) or Generals (I believe the Harlem Globetrotters own the name).

I believe the Texas Rangers (MLB) own the copyright to "Washington Senators."

Since Snyder is such a major suck-up to the god emperor maybe he's just going to appropriate the logo etc etc of the New Jersey Generals, with a few minor color tweaks.

The Kansas City/Sacramento Kings were created in 1972 shortly after the Los Angeles Kings were established. In the ABA/NBA there were the San Diego/Houston and Denver Rockets. Does copyright protection for a team name extend to all cities?
