I started to dig up a books thread, but thought I'd put it here. This will be a very good book, by a good writer, about a town I love.

I still remember when I was in 9th or 10th grade and we play the football cards every week. One week, they got two spreads completely wrong and had the big favorites as big underdogs. I pounded the hell out of those mistakes with a series of combinations on other cards and probably won about $500 total.

A muscular gentleman accompanied the runner when it was time to pay out. He said we needed to talk and I said that it wasn’t my fault that he got the spreads wrong. He asked how much I spent, gave me the money back and handed me a $20. He said that since I was a smart kid, i should take the money and forget that this ever happened — it was like out of a bad gangster movie except I was acting in it. After I finished shitting my pants, I stammered and said it was fine. He said that if I ever saw a mistake like that again, I should come to him and he’d give me $50.

That story reminds me of the two-bit bookie who started taking action on Oaklawn in the 1980s. The problem was he thought the local radio station that carried the race calls was live instead of delayed.

So Dad and his buddies had somebody at the track call them with the results. They’d place low wagers - enough to cover lunch or dinner, $40 or $50 in winnings - and always cash.

The odds on first goals/last goals have gotten as lot less favorable on Draft Kings the past couple of days.

My boring parlay bets for the weekend — Atletico Madrid, Barca, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Man United to win at +496 and also added Juve to the same bet for +663.

Two puzzling (but profitable) table tennis numbers, both involving V. Mezlikin. A quick and free $19 profit for me.

Also... Mallorca-Madrid total. It's 2.5 goals. I have one book at Over -115. Another book's under has shot up from +120 to +160 in the last half hour. Holy crap. I'm trying to get $695 down at A and $500 down at B to guarantee a $102 profit. Time for a new Laz-E-Boy.

But if you do take a little nibble of the cow, FFS, don't take pictures of your tickets and share them. Morons.

Had to spread the $695 out between three different books that were -115 or -120 but it worked.

After watching a ton of games and scoring trends, the goals are picking up all over.

However, there is still value in plus money on unders at the start if you bet in-game. Not seeing a lot of scoring in the first 20-25 minutes with a bunch at the end of each half.
