You also have a lot of built-up frustration due to COVID. People have been stuck inside or at least somewhat restricted for a couple of months. There are also a lot more people who are unemployed, which means they are even more stressed and they have all that free time. I think it was a combination of many factors that got things to blow up this time around.

I think it was the blatant murder being caught on tape, too. Some of these situations either haven't been filmed at all (Trayvon Martin), had some ambiguity that people could twist themselves into justifying (Michael Brown), or simply didn't strike a nerve.

This did. And in the fact that the footage clearly contradicts the police report, that there are was a delay in punishing the officers (nevermind charging them), and that it occurred around the same time as the Breonna Taylor murder and the release of the Ahmaud Arbery footage, and it was the perfect storm.

I was watching clips on YouTube of "Do the Right Thing" the other day (I need to watch it beginning to end again) and thought: That story took place on the hottest day of a heat wave. The 2020 version could take place on the heels of two months of quarantine/stay-at-home orders/job loss.

I agree that those are all factors as well. The video of Amy Cooper calling the police added fuel to the fire. Hell, the election probably plays a part in it as well. You've got people talking about this as the most important election ever. President Trump is incredibly divisive and there are certainly many minorities who find having him in the White House troubling, to say the least.

As a nation, we've got a lot of fucked-up shit going on right now.

AAU travel parents think people let military, fire and police do anything they want.

Since Sept, 2001, there has been a tremendous glorification of police, fire and military that many people think they can do no wrong or pretty much any behavior is acceptable.

Trump, Georgia, Central Park, Minnesota and COVID all had a part in this.

Only one should have been avoided.

Sept 11, 2001 was a long tine ago. Parents of AAU travel kids were kids themselves when it happened. There's been a lot of history since then, and events change attitudes.

Fully agree and will add that it was probably the build up of the others that made this even more infuriating. Throw in Eric Gardner who was on video in much the same way except he was initially standing. Every time they're was a sense of "this time they have to listen" and nothing happened. Finally it all boiled over. Throw in a side of a racist president and the was a pressure cooker ready to blow it's top.

    Only one?
    Trump should have been avoided.
Georgia (arbery situation) should have been avoided.
Central Park (karen) should have been avoided.
Central Park (CP 5) should have been avoided.
    Minnesota should have been avoided.
COVID should have been avoided (proper planning and following a true pandemic plan).

Which of these SHOULDN'T have been avoided?
