    It's a shame, but given the current extraordinary climate, not altogether surprising. I'll be interested to see where the cuts are made. Not sure how to say this diplomatically, but my impression is that some of their weakest reporters are also some of the lowest paid, so I would think it would be challenging to achieve meaningful savings without cutting out some valuable contributors.

    A lot of these folks were hired away from places to which it'll be hard to return. I will be curious to see if all the layoffs are lower-end beat writers who'd struggle to find the next job, or if a few of the 1,948 national people they have bouncing around there has to take a 12-day layoff between national stops.

    Xavier and Boise State were always going to be tenuous. Can't say I'm surprised that "Lakers Film Room" is on the list. By definition, it appears to be superfluous. A second Lakers person? I presume they still have one Lakers reporter left.
